Penny : Alright, my boss says you either have to order, or leave and never come back.

• either A or B : A, B 둘 중에 하나
• 우리 보스가 주문을 하든지, 나가서 다시 오지 말래요

 

쉘던이 메뉴를 못 고르는 장면

Sheldon : We don't eat here, I don't know what's good

Penny : Well, It's all good.

Sheldon : statistically unlikely

• 통계학적으로 불가능해

 

쉘던이 그냥 빅보이버거 먹으러 가자니까 여기서 바베큐버거 먹으라고 친구들이 말함

Sheldon : Excuse me, in a world that already includes the Big Boy, why would I settle for something like a Big Boy?

• settle for something : to agree or accept something, although it is not what you want
• 잠깐, 빅보이가 이미 있는데 왜 빅보이 같은거에 정착해야하지? (만족해야하지?)

Lesley : I didin't know you ate here.

Sheldon : We don't. This is a disturbing aberration.

Leonard : Lesley, this is Penny, she lives across the hall from Sheldon and me.

• disturb : 방해하다. 불안하게 하다. 
• disturbing aberration : 불안한 일탈
• 활용 문장 : The woman who lives across the hall from me is the same age as me. She has twin sons and they are the same age as my son. I think it would be good to get help if I lived across the hall from my mom's house.

Lesley : So, I'm glad I ran into you. The Physics Department string quartet needs a new cellist. (생략) We rehearse on Tuseday at your place

• I'm glad I ran into you : 마침 너 만나서 잘됐다.
• string quarter : 현악4중주 (바이올린2, 비올라, 첼로로 이루어짐)

Lesley : If you're up for it we could practice that middle section again.

• I'm up for it / down for it : 같은 의미로, I'm okay, I'm available 이런 뜻이다

Lesley : Just so we're clear, you understand that me hanging back to practice with you is a pretext for letting you know that I'm sexually available.

• pretext : 구실, 핑계
• hang back : 사람들이 다 떠난 뒤에 남다
• 확실하게. 내가 너랑 연습하자고 남는건 성관계를 하고 싶다고 너에게 알려주려는 구실이라는 걸 이해한거겠지.

Lesley : I'm seducing you

• seduce : 유혹하다. 특히 자기보다 어리거나 경험없는 사람을 성관계를 갖도록 꾀다.

Lesley : I thought I saw your pupils dilate when you looked at her

• Your pupils are dilated : 네 동공이 확장되더라 [dai'leit]

• tamper with : 위조/변조/조작하다
• equation : 방정식

Sheldon : Inconsiderate, that is the adgective, inconsiderate

• inconsiderate : 사려깊지 못한 (=thoughtless)

• Way ahead of you : It's a way of saying that you've reached a solution earlier than someone else, or have taken careof something early on
• 예를 들면, Shouldn't we get something to eat? Way ahead of you, I've already got a pizza ordered.

Sheldon : You know why this hamburger surpasses the Big Boy? This has a much more satisfying meat to bun to condiment ratio.

• surpass : 능가하다
• meat to bun co condiment ratio : 고기, 빵, 소스의 비율

 

 

그 외의 단어

mishap : 경미한 사고, 불행

practise : 영국에서는 명사로 practice, 동사로 practise 를 쓰고, 미국에서는 명사/동사 둘 다 practice 사용

 

 

이번에는 특별히 어려운 단어도 없어서 끝까지 단숨에 읽어나갔고 그러다보니 10문장을 훌쩍 넘겨버렸다.
